Constraining Lexical Selection Across Languages Using TAGs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lexical selection in Machine Translation consists of several related components. Two that have received a lot of attention are lexical mapping from an underlying concept or lexical item, and choosing the correct subcategorization frame based on argument structure. Because most MT applications are small or relatively domain speciic, a third component of lexical selection is generally overlooked-distinguishing between lexical items that are closely related conceptually. While some MT systems have proposed using a 'world knowledge' module to decide which word is more appropriate based on various pragmatic or stylistic constraints, we are interested in seeing how much we can accomplish using a combination of syntax and lexical semantics. By using separate ontologies for each language implemented in FB-LTAGs, we are able to elegantly model the more speciic and language dependent syntactic and semantic distinctions necessary to further lter the choice of the lexical item.

On multiword lexical units and their role in maritime dictionaries
Multi-word lexical units are a typical feature of specialized dictionaries, in particular monolingual and bilingual maritime dictionaries. The paper studies the concept of the multi-word lexical unit and considers the similarities and differences of their selection and presentation in monolingual and bilingual maritime dictionaries. The work analyses such issues as the classification of multi-w...
متن کاملLexical Semantics and Selection of TAM in Bantu Languages: A Case of Semantic Classification of Kiswahili Verbs
The existing literature on Bantu verbal semantics demonstrated that inherent semantic content of verbs pairs directly with the selection of tense, aspect and modality formatives in Bantu languages like Chasu, Lucazi, Lusamia, and Shiyeyi. Thus, the gist of this paper is the articulation of semantic classification of verbs in Kiswahili based on the selection of TAM types. This is because the sem...
متن کاملIntegrating Source-Language Context into Log-Linear Models of Statistical Machine Translation
The translation features typically used in state-of-the-art statistical machine translation (SMT) model dependencies between the source and target phrases, but not among the phrases in the source language themselves. A swathe of research has demonstrated that integrating source context modelling directly into log-linear phrasebased SMT (PB-SMT) and hierarchical PB-SMT (HPB-SMT), and can positiv...
متن کاملRecurrent personality dimensions in inclusive lexical studies: indications for a big six structure.
Previous evidence for both the Big Five and the alternative six-factor model has been drawn from lexical studies with relatively narrow selections of attributes. This study examined factors from previous lexical studies using a wider selection of attributes in 7 languages (Chinese, English, Filipino, Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, and Turkish) and found 6 recurrent factors, each with common conceptual...
